The Garden of Memory
Objects can signify, evoke emotions, memories and create identities. Their surfaces bear the scars of time, embodying secret histories of touch and of all the spaces that they have journeyed through. We collect objects, inherit them, accumulate them, misuse them and discard them. Objects hold our own personal histories and our memories, and also our desires and fragments of our future selves. In this way, objects challenge our sense of time, and how we belong to its memories. The object or the entry point to these memories/memory space is the interface. The nature of this space(or form) comes from the quality of the interface one enters through. For instance, if you looked at a door, you also remembered the wind that came with it when you opened it. So, to consume this space, it takes you to your own experience of the object and also to experience the memory of the object.
Tracing these histories would trace the memories of everything around it, including the future of that memory. Each student, through their object, will construct an interface that creates order/ illusion/coalition/alliance with the past and the imagined future.
What are the ways in which one can experience and consume this memory space? What are the ways in which this memory space can be accessed through the object? By performing formal operations, how can one actualise it into a physical space?
