Kamla Raheja Memorial Lecture Series 2024 – 23rd – 24th February 2024

The Kamla Raheja Memorial Lecture Series is an annual event held by the KRVIA to discover new directions in architecture and urban practice and pedagogy through discussions and debate, experiment and play, it enables the institution to open out new avenues and horizons for exploration within the academy. Every year a different issue concerning contemporary spatial practices is unpacked through multidisciplinary explorations, seminars, lectures, exhibitions and workshops. These events have covered a wide variety of issues including questions of the domain of architectural thinking, housing, infrastructure, history and heritage. The KRMLS is ssupported by the Kamla Raheja Foundation.

CITY, CULTURE AND ARCHITECTURE

The theme attempts to articulate the city, urban phenomena and architecture through the lens of culture. It is an interdisciplinary understanding of culture, which is in a state of flux, shaped by the city, its identity and its architecture.

The theme runs through a three-year of cycle and brings about sub themes as follows.

BOOK LAUNCH

Pratyush Shankar

Prof. Pratyush Shankar is presently the provost of Navrachana University and also the Dean of School of Environmental Design and Architecture(SEDA), Navrachana University in Vadodara, India. Prof. Pratyush was recently honoured as the International Ambassador for the University of Bonn, Germany and
was awarded the Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship in 2015 and was hosted at the University of Bonn, Germany. Before joining Navrachana University, Prof. Pratyush was the Acting Dean of Architecture and head of the Undergraduate Program at CEPT University and has been teaching Urban History and Design for many years now. He recently authored the book titled “Urban Form of India: From the beginning till the 1900’s, published by Oxford University Press. He also authored the book titled “Himalayan Cities: Settlement Pattern, Public Places and Architecture” published by Niyogi Publishers, New Delhi, 2014. He is presently also a Guest Professor at the Mundus Urbano Program at Architecture Faculty, TU Darmstadt, Germany. Pratyush runs a design practice along with his academic interest. He was awarded the 22nd JK Cement Architect of the Year award 2013 in Residence Design Category.
